Ford Explorer
The Explorer is a mid-sized SUV that first came into production in 1990. There are four models of Ford Explorers. The XLT is the base model with the MSRP starting at $29,010. The Eddie Bauer is the mid-range edition with an MSRP starting at $32,960. The XLT Sport has a suggested starting MSRP of $35,685. Finally, the Limited Ford Explorer has a starting MSRP of $36,010. All four models carry a 14/20 estimated MPG.
Power Specs
All models of the Ford Explorer come with independent front and rear suspension, 4x2 rear-wheel-drive, AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control (RSC®). The 4.0L V6, 5-speed auto transmission is standard with an optional 4.6L 3-valve V8, 6-speed auto transmission available on the Eddie Bauer and Limited models. Control Trac® 4x4 is available on all Ford Explorers except the XLT Sport. Power rack-and-pinion steering is standard on all models, as well as heavy-duty gas shock absorbers.
Safety Features
As mentioned before, every model of Ford Explorer comes with AdvanceTrac® with RSC®. Ford Explorers come with the Intelligent Safety System, which is a complex sensor system that communicates and works with other systems in the vehicle to determine how to correctly deploy the airbags and other safety features in the event of a frontal crash. There are a number of convenience packages available with the Ford Explorer, a number of which come standard. Optional features vary by model but include: Dual-zone electronic air conditioning for the Eddie Bauer, auto-dimming rear view mirror for the XLT, power-adjustable pedals with memory and heated exterior mirrors for the Eddie Bauer, 3rd row seating for the XLT, and rear temperature controls for the XLT sport. Exterior Features
Body colored door handles, fog lamps, one-piece liftgate with rear window that opens, solar-tinted windshield, and enhanced appearance privacy glass are standard on all Ford Explorers. The XLT has optional upgrades of autolamp on/off delay headlamps, black step bars, and a power moonroof. The Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer has a standard chrome grill, Pueblo Gold front and rear bumpers, Pueblo Gold step bars, and Pueblo Gold wheellip moldings. Some of the standard exterior features for the XLT Sport include black painted front and rear bumpers, black grille with 3 bars and nostrils, black step bars, and black wheellip moldings. The Ford Explorer Limited comes with standard body color bumpers, chrome grill, power and heated mirrors, roof side rails, chrome step bars, and body color wheellip moldings.
